Web Design — General

How much does a website cost?

Every project is unique, so pricing depends on the scope, complexity, and features you need. As a guide, websites start from £1,500 and are quoted on a project-by-project basis after our initial consultation. Hourly work and smaller tasks are charged at £45 per hour.

During our free consultation I'll get a clear picture of what you need and provide a transparent, no-obligation quote — no hidden fees, no surprises.

What information do I need to provide before we start?

To get the best result, it helps to have the following ready — but don't worry if you haven't got everything; I can help you pull it together:

  • Website copy — the text you'd like on the site (or I can write SEO-friendly copy for you).
  • Logo & brand guidelines — colours, fonts, and any brand assets you already have.
  • Images — photos of your business, team, products, or completed work.
  • Social proof — reviews from Google, Facebook, or other platforms.
  • A domain name — e.g. www.yourbusiness.co.uk. Keep it short, memorable, and easy to say aloud.
  • A clear call to action — what do you want visitors to do? Call you, fill in a form, buy a product?

How does your web design process work?

1. A Quick Chat — We have an initial conversation about your goals, your business, and what you need the website to achieve. I'll document the agreed scope and send it over by email.

2. Discovery — We explore websites that inspire you, identify what works, and plan how to integrate the best ideas into your design.

3. Copy & Mock-Ups — If I'm writing your website copy, I'll send it for review first — all written with SEO in mind. Once approved, I'll create a mock-up of your site for feedback.

4. Revisions — We'll chat to make sure everything feels right and make any necessary adjustments.

5. Sign Off & Launch — One final review, any last tweaks, and then we go live. Exciting times!

How long does it take to build a website?

A typical small business website takes between 2–4 weeks from kick-off to launch, depending on how quickly content and feedback are provided. Larger or more complex projects — such as e-commerce sites — may take longer and will be scoped accordingly during our consultation.

The biggest variable is usually content. The quicker you can supply copy, images, and feedback, the quicker we'll reach launch day.

Will my website be mobile-friendly?

Absolutely. Every website I build is fully responsive, meaning it adapts seamlessly to desktops, tablets, and smartphones. With the majority of web traffic now coming from mobile devices, this isn't optional — it's essential.

Do you build e-commerce websites?

Yes. I design and develop e-commerce websites that make it simple for your customers to browse, add to basket, and check out. Whether you're selling a handful of products or managing a larger catalogue, I'll recommend the right platform and structure for your needs.

SEO & Performance

What is SEO and why does it matter?

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of optimising your website and online presence so it ranks higher on search engines like Google. Higher rankings mean more visibility, more visitors, and ultimately more enquiries or sales.

Every website I build has a solid SEO foundation baked in from day one — including clean code, fast loading speeds, proper heading structure, and optimised content.

Do you offer ongoing SEO services?

Yes. SEO isn't a one-off task; it requires consistent effort over time. I offer ongoing SEO packages that include keyword research, content creation, citation building, and performance monitoring to help your site climb the rankings and stay there.

Will my website load quickly?

Speed is a priority on every project. I build lean, clean websites without unnecessary bloat — optimised images, efficient code, and reliable hosting all contribute to a fast-loading site. Speed isn't just good for your visitors; it's a ranking factor for search engines too.

Working Together

Why choose a freelance designer over an agency?

When you work with me, you're working directly with the person designing and building your website — not being passed between account managers and junior staff. That means clearer communication, faster turnarounds, and a designer who genuinely understands your business.

You won't receive a cookie-cutter template that's been sold a hundred times. Everything is custom-built around your brand and your goals.

Do you provide training on how to manage my website?

Yes. Once your site is live, I provide personalised 1-to-1 training so you feel confident navigating and updating your content through the CMS. You won't be left on your own — I'll make sure you're comfortable before we wrap up.

Do you offer website maintenance and support?

I do. Websites need ongoing care — security updates, content changes, performance checks, and the occasional tweak. I offer flexible maintenance packages so your site stays in top shape long after launch. Think of it as having a designer on retainer without the agency price tag.

Can you help with website hosting?

Yes. I can recommend and set up reliable hosting that suits your website's needs, whether you're running a simple brochure site or a fully featured online shop. I'll handle the technical side so you don't have to.

Graphic Design & Branding

What graphic design services do you offer?

Alongside web design, I provide a range of graphic design services for both print and digital, including:

  • Logo design and full branding packages
  • Business card and stationery design
  • Leaflets, flyers, and brochure design
  • Social media graphics and ad creatives
  • Photo manipulation and retouching

Consistent branding across your website and printed materials builds trust and makes your business instantly recognisable.

Can you design a logo for my business?

Absolutely. A strong logo is the cornerstone of your brand identity. I'll work with you to understand your business personality, your audience, and your goals, then create a logo that's distinctive, versatile, and built to last. Every logo is delivered in multiple formats ready for web, print, and social media use.

Do I need a brand identity, or is a logo enough?

A logo is a great start, but a full brand identity takes things further. It includes your colour palette, typography, tone of voice, and guidelines for how your brand is presented across every touchpoint — from your website to your business cards to your social channels.

A cohesive brand identity makes your business look more professional, builds trust, and helps clients remember you. I'd always recommend it, especially if you're building a new website at the same time.

Can I get graphic design work without a website project?

Of course. Graphic design services are available as standalone projects. Whether you just need a new logo, a set of business cards, or a full suite of marketing materials, I'm happy to help — no website required.
